Shotter Boys: Regent Street

Thomas Shotter Boys

Regent Street, towards Duke of York’s Column

20 x 16 inches

Thomas Shotter Boys was born in London in 1803 and is best remembered for his spectacular views of the city from the early Victorian period. He was both an accomplished water colourist and a proficient lithographer so his work is very highly regarded amongst print collectors and art historians alike. At the age of twenty he went to live and work in Paris and produced a series of images of the French capital but it is his series of lithographs of London from 1842 for which he is best remembered. They offer an unparalleled perspective on the city with each image giving fascinating architectural information. In addition, each scene is enlivened with wonderful figurative work showing the trades, professions and costumes during the early reign of Queen Victoria.
