A magnificent set of four hand coloured aquatints by John Harris after the paintings by James Pollard, published by Ackermann in London in 1837.

These wonderfully evocative prints depict all the excitement and activity associated with the St. Leger Stakes, one of the highlights of the racing calendar.

John Harris III (1811-1865) was a prolific artist and engraver of sporting, topographical and military subjects after his contemporaries. He was born in London and spent his whole working life in the capital. His name has become synonymous with some of the most famous and highly regarded aquatint views of the nineteenth century.
