James Henry Lynch after William Shayer
34 x 27.5 inches
A set of large-scale lithographs depicting an English fox hunt. Drawn on stone by Lynch after the paintings by William Shayer and published in London circa 1850.
It is not known which hunt these marvellous lithographs depicts but the topography of gently rolling hills, windmills and farmsteads suggests somewhere in Southern England. The handsome Victorian gentlemen, the beautifully rendered horses and the appealing landscapes combine to make this an extremely attractive and classic set of hunting prints. William Shayer was an artist from Chichester who specialised in sporting scenes and James Lynch was a talented lithographer who was confident enough to work on such a large scale.
