John BOYDELL A group of 6 River Thames Views 1. A View of Blackwall looking towards Greenwich
22 x 16 inches London was just emerging as arguably the most important commercial city in the world when these engravings were produced in the middle of the Eighteenth Century. The scenes stretch from Chelsea in the west down river to Woolwich in the Thames Estuary out east. They show the variety of craft upon the river and many of the important buildings that were beginning to grace the riverbank at this time. |
