Bowles and Carver The Royal Castle and Palace of Windsor in Berkshire 16 x 10 inches A copper plate etching in strong, original hand colour; published in London circa 1790. These perspective views were tremendously popular in C18th England. Their publication was eagerly anticipated and people would collect them to show in portfolios after dinner. This image captures the majesty of Windsor castle from the meadows below. Gentlefolk stroll across the fields conversing, exercising their dogs and generally marvelling at the scene. The river can be seen to the right of the picture with Eton beyond. £450Unframed |
