Scotson Clark Music Hall

Marguerite Cornille

7.5 x 10.5 inches

A charming coloured lithograph by G. Scotson-Clark; published in London by Fisher Unwin circa 1900.

This amusing image depicts Marguerite Cornille and comes from a larger series of the stars of the late C19th London Music Hall. Marguerite Cornille was a French vaudeville pianist and singer who delighted crowds in both Paris and London. The series dates from a time when the Music Hall was at a peak of its popularity and its stars were as famous as any cinema or stage actor today. Many of the artistes became well known for particular songs and crowds would gather in huge numbers to hear them perform.
