A woman has lost all her jewellery playing cards, which have been thrown on the fire. Her rakish friend is pressing her for one last game. The model for the Lady was Jane, Hogarth's wife.

Hogarth's original painting, his last "Comic History", was completed in 1759 and is now in the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, New York State.
