Hartinger's Wall Chart The ORANGUTAN 22 x 29 inches A large chromolithographed plate of an adult orang-utan published in Vienna and Prague circa 1890. This large poster would have been produced for educational purposes towards the end of the nineteenth century and would have adorned schoolroom walls throughout Germany and Austria. Hartinger's wall charts started to appear from 1880 onwards published in Vienna by Carl Gerold Sohn. Initially the charts were divided into three classifications: zoology, botany and trees. The charts were printed in the chromolithographic method using between 8 and 10 different coloured inks. This orang-utan is illustrated to half life size and has been depicted with an almost lugubrious expression on his face. £575 |
