A typically intricate work by Waterhouse Hawkins who was one of the most talented and inspiring natural history artists of his generation. He was adept at both drawing and sculpting and between 1842 and 1847 was employed by the Earl of Derby to create life sized animals for the house and grounds at Knowsley Park in Lancashire. He is most famously remembered, however, for the 33 full sized dinosaurs that he created for the Crystal Palace Exhibition of 1853-54.
