Pochoir prints by the French artist and designer, Emile Seguy, published in Paris in 1914.

How many times have you overheard someone saying ''I just need some inspiration for my stuffs''? It was Emile Allain Seguy (1877-1951) who came up with solutions in his dazzling collection of bold pochoir designs for materials, wallpapers and carpets. Each print is meticulously created using the 'pochoir. method whereby each colour is applied to the paper by a brush or sponge through its own individual stencil. The results are striking and very much chime with both the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements that swept across Europe in the early C20th. Seguy was inspired by nature and in particular flowers and butterflies; both form the basis for the majority of his designs. His motifs were picked up by designers and interior decorators in cities such as Paris, Berlin and London. The prints use a heavy, good quality paper that was able to absorb and enhance the thick gouache paint used in their production. They are beautiful examples of a very distinctive design movement.
