Both prints show the exciting final sprint for the winning post and in each case every horse is clearly identified in a key below the plate. John Harris (fl 1798-1857) was one of the most proficient aquatint engravers of his age and achieved his greatest notoriety for reproducing the sporting scenes of his contemporaries. He lived and worked in London producing a magnificent collection of sporting and military prints that have remained popular ever since.
