A set of four proof aquatints engraved by Edward Duncan after his own designs and published in London in 1830.

The quality and clarity of these prints is exceptional and testifies to Duncan's skill as both an engraver and a watercolourist. Each scene concentrates on the pursuit of the birds but gives us so much more; the landscapes are given an astonishing level of attention with trees, undergrowth, water and sky all finished in exquisite detail. The birds themselves are quite hard to find and play second fiddle to the beautiful dogs and their dashing owners, resplendent in top hats, frock coats and tight breeches. Shooting remained a very gentlemanly pursuit into the C19th and anyone worth his salt would boast both a house in town and a house in the country with a shoot attached.
