Evans Chester Regatta

Evand & Gresty.

Chester Regatta 1854.

16 x 12 inches

A hand tinted etching drawn, engraved and printed by Evans and Gresty of Chester in 1854.

Rowing prints are relatively scarce in the sporting portfolio and ones depicting regattas even more so. This delightful image depicts a jubilant day out in Chester where the local rowing team are competing against a rival crew from Manchester. Luckily for the locals we are witnessing a victory for the Chester Royal Rowing Club as their team trounces that of the Manchester Nemesis Rowing Club. The boats are called Victoria and Nemesis respectively and the stakes are high with 50 guineas being awarded to the winner. What adds to the gaiety of the scene are all crowds clearly enjoying their day out on the river.
