John Harris after J. F. Herring (senior) Fore's Series of the Mothers 15 x 13 inches Four hand coloured aquatints (of nine), engraved by Harris after Herring and published by Fores in London in 1855. In these endearing images we have two highly esteemed equestrian artists turning their hands to an unusually sentimental subject matter. Gone are the glistening rumps of prize winning racehorses and the majesty of a thoroughbred approaching the finishing line. In their place we have intimate scenes of female, farmyard animals and birds nurturing their young. Piglets, a foal, a calf and some very cute ducklings take centre stage in these charming bucolic scenes. Do not be fooled by the simplicity of the subject matter however, each print has all the artistic hallmarks of Herring and Harris at the top of their game. £1200 Set of 4 |
