Alfred Charles Havell for Messrs Fores
Waiting for the Verdict, Newmarket [&] The Parade, Kempton
33 x 26 inches
A large-scale pair of chromolithographed plates depicting famous racecourses, published by Fores (after Havell's designs) in London in 1892.
These tension, excitement and anticipation of these scenes will be all too familiar amongst the racing fraternity, especially amongst the owners and riders as they await crucial race results. At Newmarket we are in the paddock anxiously awaiting the results of the race whilst at Kempton the action has yet to begin and the horses are warming up, "on parade", so that punters can pick their favourite at the bookies. The illustrious firm of Messrs Fores produced exceptional equestrian and sporting prints from the C18th right through into the C20th.
