Fairland after Nicholson
A Pair of English Sheep The Romney Marsh Breed [&] The Old Lincoln Breed
24.5 x 20.5
A pair of lithographs in original hand colour issued in David Low's "Illustrations of The Breeds of the Domestic Animals of the British Isles" in London in 1842.
These lithographic images were drawn on stone by Fairland after the drawings of William Nicholson who, in turn, copied the paintings of William Shiels RSA. Each image in Low's famous work depicts a particular breed of British livestock set in a landscape. The owner's details are also given in the text beneath each image.
