A.P. Iroqois Winner of the Derby 1881. 14½ x 20½". A satirical portrait of the jockey Fred Archer (1857-86) riding Iroqois to victory in the Derby. Known as the 'Tin Man', Archer was tall for a jockey at 5' 10", bu this did not stop him being one of the best, winning champion jockey thirteen times. Iroquis (1878-99) was also notable, being the first American-bred horse to win the Derby. On his return to America he became the leading sire of 1892. £850Framed |
